We have a great opportunity for the AuTeens Youth Group. Richard and I met with the youth coordinator of the Arc of the Fox Cities. The Arc has a program called YARC that some of you may be familiar with. YARC is a club for teens ages 14 to graduation. The club is designed to build friendships between teens with and without disabilities. YARC meets from 7-8:30 pm every other Thursday evening during the school year at First Congregational United Church of Christ at 724 E South River Street in Appleton. YARC has invited the AuTeens Youth Group that fits into their age criteria to join their activities. We feel any AuTeens attendee who has Aspergers or is high functioning may work very well with this group. Once your teen is comfortable with the setting (and you are too) then you can drop off your child and pick them up when it ends. In the beginning they do ask that the parents stay to ensure all is well. But they have peer volunteers and several adults on the premises also. For more information contact Nick Heimmermann at thearc-ni@athenet.net. We hope this may be a good fit for your teen!
